Responsible Contracting
Posted On: Sep 14, 2018

Responsible contracting leads to better quality of construction services and a reduced risk of contract failure when contractors have a proven track record of providing employees with living wages and benefits and abiding by fair contracting processes.

Responsible contractors set responsibility standards for complying with workplace, tax and other laws, while providing employees with the wages, benefits and protections they are afforded by their union. Through the implementation of strong, reasonable building codes enforced by the State of Ohio, responsible contractors are able to perform the necessary work of building Ohio properly.

When included in bid specifications, a Responsible Contractor Policy enables the owner or governing entity to instill that the lowest “responsible bid” is more important than just the lowest price. Once adopted and generated into the bid documents, these important qualifications let the entire community know that the owner or governing entity wants competent and qualified construction firms and personnel to build and renovate its facilities and infrastructure.

Responsible Contractor criteria can include:

  • Safety Training
  • References
  • Compliance with Regulatory Agencies
  • Proper Licensing
  • Proper Insurance
  • Accident and Illness Rates
  • Compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act
  • Quality of Life Issues
