An apprentice learns a craft skill through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction. The apprenticeship training period ranges from three to five years based on the requirements of the trade.

Career opportunities in construction are nearly unlimited. There are many different jobs for many different projects. The Toledo Northwest Ohio Building Trades are made up of sixteen autonomous construction trades, and each trade has its own advantages, responsibilities and rewards for those who are qualified.
